It would be safe to assume that A was probably an older unit than B, but from the markings on the unit you&#8217;d never tell the difference as both were marked clearly with &#8220;v1.1&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A fllashed fine with Sveasoft Alchemy-pre7a but flashing B with it resulted in a response of &#8220;Firmware upgrade failed&#8221; and turning into a brick.<\/p>\n<p>Which sucked. \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that once you turn a WRT54GS v1.1 into a brick, the bootloader will configure the unit to listen on 192.168.1.1 and accept a TFTP put for up to two seconds after power on&#8230;. so simply uploading the stock linksys firmware results in a functional unit again.<\/p>\n<p>The bad (or really just confusing) news is that you have to flash the newer v1.1 units with Sveasoft Alchemy-6.0rc5a FIRST before you can upload the newest Alchemy-pre7a which I haven&#8217;t explored to try to understand &#8211; but whatever.<\/p>\n<p>Now that A and B are both working with the latest Sveasoft firmware, on with my project&#8230; TTFN<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I bought my 2nd and 3rd WRT54GS routers for a project this past week&#8230; one was a re-furb (unit A) and the other was brand new (unit B).
