I love my Tivo<\/a>. But my Phillips Series 1 Tivo is slow as ass. Its probably becuase of 80gig drive I added to it. Rumor has it that a memory upgrade from 16mb to 32mb will improve the speed. 9thtee<\/a> sells the upgrade kit<\/a> for $20 but I have no skill for SMD soldering so I’m sending it in to ElectricLegs to get done. I don’t think its too pricey for $50.<\/p>\n

If the memory upgrade doesn’t work, I can always get a CacheCard<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You can also send the mainboard alone for the modem or memory work. I recommend the Post Office Priority shipping w\/insurance unless you’re in the Mid South, then UPS ground may be a better value. FedEx or any other currier is fine too.<\/p>\n

Use an 18lb carrier box at www.iship.com\/priceit\/price.asp to estimate the shipping costs to 78413. (3lbs for just the mainboard)<\/p>\n

Memory Upgrades:
\n I’ll install, configure and test 2 Micron chips for $50 plus return shipping.<\/p>\n

TurboNet:
\n I’ll install one and set the software up for $90 (I’ll need the drives in the Tivo)Additional $10 if your software isn’t current and the modem’s not working.<\/p>\n

HardDrives:
\n I have 80 (adds 95 basic hours) and 120 (145 Hrs) gig Maxtor, WD, or Samsung 1 yr factory warranty drives for upgrades and they are $160\/$200 installed with a bracket. I can do dual installations too.<\/p>\n

Parts:
\nHarddrive bracket for $20
\nMemory kit for $20
\nSerial port to PC adapter kit $10<\/p>\n

Generally it takes 3-4 days to get them back out.<\/p>\n
